Discover the Magic of Autumn Kayaking in Malta

Updated: Oct 23

As summer fades and autumn rolls in, Malta reveals a whole new side of its coastline... quieter, calmer, and absolutely breathtaking. From October through December, the island transforms into a kayaker’s paradise. At Get Out and Kayak Malta (GOAK), we couldn’t be more excited to share this magical season with you!

Why Autumn is Perfect for Kayaking in Malta

With fewer boats on the water, the sea becomes clearer and cleaner. This gives you the chance to truly connect with nature. Swim zones are removed during this time, meaning the entire coastline becomes our playground, stretching all the way until May.

It’s an opportunity to paddle freely, explore hidden coves, and experience Malta’s stunning shores without the bustle of summer. Golden sunsets, calm seas, and the peaceful sound of your paddle dipping into crystal-clear water; autumn offers a serenity that’s hard to match.

Comfort, Exploration, and Longer Paddles

The air is cooler than in the peak of summer, making it the perfect time for longer and more comfortable paddles. To ensure warmth and ease, we switch to our sit-inside kayak fleet. This gives you a snug and enjoyable ride as you glide across Malta’s waters.

With the added comfort, our tours often go farther during autumn. You’ll discover more of the rugged coastline, hidden caves, and spectacular cliff views. Want to see our kayaks and gear? Click here!

Adventures for Every Paddler

At GOAK, we’re full-time kayakers with a true passion for the sport. We love sharing that passion with you! Whether you’re new to kayaking or an experienced paddler, we tailor our adventures to suit your needs.

Some of our most popular routes include:

  • Mistra to St. Paul’s Island and beyond: a classic coastal paddle rich in history and beauty.

  • St. Thomas Bay to il-Ħofriet and beyond: dramatic cliffs and hidden gems along the southern coast.

  • The Grand Harbour and Three Cities Tour: paddle through history with stunning views of Valletta’s fortifications.

  • Għajn Tuffieħa (Gnejna) to Anchor Bay / Popeye Village: a rewarding route for intermediate paddlers.

  • Gnejna to Ta’ Marija Cave: a scenic and gentle route perfect for beginners.

  • Armier to Coral Lagoon and Slugs Bay: crystal-clear waters and magical sea caves for adventurous spirits.

For those seeking something extraordinary, we also arrange Three Sisters Island Hopping, connecting Malta, Comino, and Gozo in one unforgettable journey. This route is for intermediate to advanced paddlers, as it consists of several open water crossings.

Special Autumn and Holiday Paddles

Autumn is not just about serenity; it’s also about fun! Join our Halloween Paddle, where spooky costumes meet the calm Maltese waters (event page coming soon). Lella was a witch and Turu a zombie in this episode, and in this one, we were pirates!

Looking ahead, our Christmas Paddles are a festive tradition!

What to Bring for Your Autumn Kayak Adventure

To make the most of your paddle, we recommend bringing:

  • Light layers to stay warm on the water and spare clothes just in case.

  • A reusable water bottle to keep hydrated.

  • A hat and sunscreen (yes, the Maltese sun is still strong in autumn!).

  • A dry bag for your phone or camera (with protection), because you’ll want to capture these views.

  • A towel.

Why Choose G.O.A.K?

What sets G.O.A.K. apart from other paddlesport operators is our ability to create bespoke adventures. We listen to your desires, craft a unique experience just for you, and always put safety first. Of course, Mother Nature has the final say, and all our tours are weather-dependent. We carefully choose each location according to the day’s conditions to ensure the best possible experience.

As one of our past guests put it: “There’s nothing like paddling along Malta’s coastline in the peace of autumn; it feels like the island belongs just to you.”
