One of our members, Philip Spiteri, told us that Profs. Deidun was wondering if he know any kayakers that would be willing to paddle the southern coast of Malta for @euronews. Of course, we obliged, as we fully support Profs and his work on the CORALLO project, found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ80fhbLnhE Read more about the project here https://www.corallo-italiamalta.eu/?fbclid=IwAR0bHrQrtm5tzHVs3Pl_NCfLtVV47yK4ljGN3tEl_iJ6-tk_gO1Jyv4KyGA So, we invited some friends, and they came, in full force! We broke ANOTHER Maltese record!!! Last time, it was 2022 with 54 kayaks for our Strawberry Supermoon Event, found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjXVIe7I5u4 This time, a staggering 73 kayaks, 10+ sups and even a @HobieOfficial foot-powered vessel came! Get Out and Kayak Malta, in collaboration with EuroNews, embarked on a thrilling kayaking journey that was not only a record-breaking event but also captured the attention of the world. The excitement was palpable as a staggering turnout of 73 kayaks and 10 stand-up paddleboards gathered in Marsascala for this momentous occasion. A sea of enthusiastic participants, spanning all ages and hailing from different countries, united with a shared passion for low-carbon sports and a commitment to preserving our planet’s precious ecosystems. Truly a sight to behold! (to read more, click the link above) MASSive thanks to EVERYONE that came, helped each other out, and enjoyed the sea together. While kayaking near Blue Grotto, Malta, our group experienced an unforgettable wildlife encounter when two wild dolphins appeared beside our kayaks. Twenty two paddlers had launched from Ghar Lapsi and were exploring the dramatic coastline, sea caves and crystal clear waters around Blue Grotto when we spotted movement in the distance. What first looked like a swimmer quickly revealed itself to be something far more special. Two wild dolphins slowly surfaced and spent time investigating the kayaks, creating a magical moment that none of us will forget. This short clip was captured by Daniela during one of our guided kayaking adventures along Malta's spectacular southwest coast. 🌐 Get Out and Kayak Malta: https://www.getoutandkayakmalta.com 🛶 Book a guided kayaking adventure: https://www.getoutandkayakmalta.com/book ⭐ Read our 5 star reviews: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RY9FuM2RhgSQDULa7 📸 Follow us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/getoutandkayakmalta Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/getoutandkayakmalta Have you ever seen dolphins while kayaking in Malta? Join Get Out and Kayak Malta as we test our Riot Polarity 16.5 tandem sea kayak along the beautiful coastline of Mistra Bay, Selmun and St Paul's Bay, Malta. This was one of our first opportunities to put the Riot Polarity tandem through its paces and see how it performs in real sea kayaking conditions. During our 7 kilometre paddle we tested its tracking, speed, stability, comfort and rudder control system. In this video you'll see: • Riot Polarity 16.5 tandem kayak • Mistra Bay and Selmun coastline • St Paul's Bay, Malta • Rudder controlled sea kayak • Tandem sea kayaking • Real world kayak testing The Riot Polarity quickly impressed us with its speed, tracking ability and comfort, making it an excellent choice for longer coastal kayaking adventures. 🌐 Get Out and Kayak Malta: https://www.getoutandkayakmalta.com 🛶 Book a guided kayaking adventure: https://www.getoutandkayakmalta.com/book ⭐ Read our 5 star reviews: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RY9FuM2RhgSQDULa7 📸 Follow us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/getoutandkayakmalta Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/getoutandkayakmalta Have you paddled a Riot Polarity kayak? 20/11/2021 Force 2 or less winds Swells, none (till freeport) Weather: Absolutely gorgeous! We have been waiting very patiently to take the group on this side of the island. The problem is, there are not many places to rest, or get out of the boat, so, it needs to be a perfect day for the wind, and more importantly, the swells. If the waves are crashing from the wrong angle, you will have a very bad day. We use many apps, websites, and other things to determine the best places for kayaking, and when we pulled up to Ghar Lapsi in the morning, we could see from way up on the road, it was going to be an amazing day on the water. As soon as we pulled up, we saw familiar cars in the parking lot. Sometimes, our members really want to participate, but cannot come with us due to commitments on land. So, they come a bit earlier and take off, then meet us on the water. Ghar Lapsi has a pretty tricky ramp that we have to defend very carefully with fully loaded kayaks, and this is one of the best parts for us, seeing everyone smiling, helping each other in the water so no one has an injury, gods forbid, just before the event starts. We are very careful to help others in the kayaks, and out throughout the journey. The goal of the day is unlike other tours we do, as for this one, we will paddle all the way to Birzebugia, one way, and have eCabs pick us up and take us to the cars in Ghar Lapsi. Some will stay with the boats, others go for the cars. For the kayakers that simply could not complete the entire paddle, they came to Blue Grotto, then returned to Ghar Lapsi as a group, and the rest of us continued to Birzebugia. There are not many places to stop and get out of the boat, but, if you pick the right day, many opportunities arise that one can take advantage of. We decided not to stop at Wied iz Zurrieq because it was simply too close to Ghar Lapsi, but we definitely enjoyed a decent break at the infamous, Blue Grotto area. It was really special because we were basically alone, except for the occasional tourist boat bringing people to see the caves. After seeing a hairy fireworm, we decided to pack it up and get going. We recommend proper footwear at all times when outside the kayak. You never know what is on the seabed waiting to give you a sting and ruin your day. Better to be safe than sorry. We knew, once we left here, the opportunities for rest were few and far between. We paddled on... and on... To see some truly majestic cliffs and huge, unnamed caves. Wied ix Xaqqa is a beautiful little beach just after the cliffs of Hal Far, where we stopped for a proper break before entering the Freeport. Some tips for entering the Port: 1. You are in a kayak, a very versatile, quick, and nimble craft. Give way to larger vessels. 2. Stay in tight groups 3. Use your whistles and walkie-talkies to communicate. 3. If you cannot see the wheelhouse of the vessel, the captain cannot see you. Make yourself visible. After our encounter with a massive ship and several tugboats, our journey sadly came to end. Literally, as we arrived, the van pulled up to take 1/2 the crew to go get the cars. Everything went without a hitch! What an amazing day!!! We want to thank everyone that participated and for those that could not, don't worry, we will definitely go again! Interested in joining us?!? All you need is a positive attitude and a kayak (or SUP). Stay tuned to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/getoutandkayakmalta and look out for upcoming events! July 24, 2021 Early Saturday morning, we met on the beach of Little Armier, formerly Ray's Lido, now Tortuga Lido. We hopped in the water and took off for our first stop, The Coral Lagoon! This awesome sinkhole is a famous place where people jump in and swim. Kayakers have a special opening from the sea. After we had our fill of flying the drone, eating and swimming, we headed to Mark and Duke's Window to see the cool formations, and the beautiful blue waters. We found some more solace in a little sanctuary for kayaks, called Slug's Bay. After we fixed a little issue with a member's kayak, and a shrimp tried to eat Twila, we headed to Imgiebah for more swimming, drone flying, and socializing. After we had our fill, off we went back to Little Armier. Want to join us? Fell free anytime! Our events are NO COST to kayak owners. For those that don't own, we often take off from places that you can rent! See you on the water soon! When was the last time you made this trip?
